Acrimony was trash

Acrimony: bitterness or ill feeling

**SPOILERS**

My exact reaction to this movie. Ugh… every time I try to give you a chance TP…you live up to your name, and we’ll need a lot of it to clean up this shit. The acting was sub-par, Taraji did her best with what she was given as usual. The little Taraji needs to work on her acting skills if she’s gonna follow her around in TV shows and movies playing her younger self (she was in Empire). The script was just okay and then completely plummeted at the end.

Overall, the pacing was actually fairly decent. Most of Taraji’s narration had me ‘em hmm-ing’ and saying ‘oh hellll naw.’ (I should also add that this movie takes place during a court-mandated therapy session which is hella meta when you think about those of us sitting in the movie theater) In the beginning and middle, I was really feeling this movie as a good TV movie to watch at your grandma’s house for Thanksgiving with your cousins to learn about the dangers of fuckboys or as Taraji says “conmen.” What is a fuckboy you ask? Robert. Yes, I know I answered a what question with a who response, but that’s what you get. Boy played the fuck outta her, wasted over 18 years of her life taking her money, cheated on her (she totaled his RV with her Jeep when she found out), not contributing, being jobless, lying, the list goes on. He gets away with this shit for 18+ years because she’s ‘holding her man down’ and helping him chase his dream or what the fuck ever. After they go into debt and she almost loses her house over this man her family comes in to save them and gives Robert a job. This job guarantees they can pay for the house and fix everything (also, remember this a TP movie, so you know Taraji’s sisters have been talking shit about this man the whole time). EXCEPT HE’S A FUCKBOY, so he effs it up, and Taraji decides she’s done. We get a few minutes of her angry side, she gets all liberated and whatnot THEN the same hoe he cheated with 18 years ago decides to hop in and create his come up.

This where it all gets fucked up. This turns into some story about Taraji being a psycho stalker with “borderline personality disorder” (don’t even get me started) who is upset because she didn’t stick it out with her man and missed her come up. She feels she deserves the payout for the work she did to make him the millionaire man he is, but it doesn’t work out. (ALSO let’s point out that he still didn’t do shit, another woman did all that work for him). The ending gets rushed, there’s a confrontation, sulfuric acid on a wedding dress, a restraining order, people get shot, axed, and drowned. The End. The movie was odd as hell. The conclusion looked like a soap opera, the green screen struggle was real. Also, no therapy session is ever that damn long. TP as always showed his bias against the dark-skins, and I was left feeling …dare I say…acrimonious.

Anyway, if you wanna go do it for the culture, support the brown folks, support Taraji, etc., go ahead and see the movie…just have a few drinks before you do.
