Black-ish Season 1 Episode 3

Quick reminder: my reviews are more of my stream of consciousness not a comprehensive overview.

The Nod.

Dre's son does not participate in or know about the "The Nod" and Dre is of course not happy about it. Andre Jr. doesn't even notice that he's one of the only Black kids in his school and therefore has virtually no one to give "The Nod" too. I think it was a funny episode and it's definitely showing the difference of how each generation interacts as a mixture of cultures in the good ole US of A.

The goal is to find Jr. some black friends, a very important part of growing up as a minority, you need to be surrounded with a decent amount of people who look like you when you live in a world where everyone around you is different. Dre then takes his son to the hood to expose him to more black people. They go to play basketball at the local YMCA and Jr.....playing 'political' basketball gets taken dowwwnnnn people are blocking and dunking all over him. Dre then decides to have his new black co-worker (even though he's weird) over for dinner because he has a son. The co-worker was terrible and to top it all off he went into homeboys closet and put on his forces!!!! NOOOOOOO. Anyway, the kids ended up bonding over their nerd-ness and Dre then realized that Jr. did have his own group of friends with whom he had something in common in with, regardless of color of the skin. The ending was a tad corny with the "nerd is the new black" comment when Jr, gives the nod to his fellow (Asian) nerd friend. But, it was still cute. At the end of the show they teach Jr, how to do they "scrunch up damnnn face" when a woman with a large behind walks by...... -__- it was still funny though.
